Stephanie Coble likes to stay busy and that’s one reason why she and BD Construction are the perfect match. As office manager, Stephanie looks after the myriad details required to make the office run smoothly and keep BD team members on track. She appreciates that BD Construction is a family-oriented business and that the employees all work together as a team.
Prior to joining BD, Stephanie worked in customer service and medical billing, a job which honed her skills working with people and taught her to check twice for completeness and accuracy. She earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in office technology with a medical focus in 2003.
An avid runner, Stephanie trains for and competes in half-marathons.
President and CEO
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in business from Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney) in 1983, Mark Benjamin interviewed with BD Construction in Columbus, Neb. The founders, Gene Bierman and Bill Dreifurst, gave him a chance in commercial sales in the new office they were opening in Kearney.
Their decision paid off. In 1987, Mark was named general manager and, in 2001, he became the majority shareholder, president and CEO of BD Construction, Inc./Kearney. During his tenure, BD Construction has built, and continues to build, many notable projects including schools, banks, retail stores and industrial and healthcare facilities throughout Nebraska, Kansas and the Midwest.
Active in the industry and community, Mark has served as a director and president of the Nebraska Building Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and is currently the secretary-treasurer of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also currently serves on the Southeast Community College Building Construction Technology Advisory Council, and serves as the chairman for both the Associated General Contractors Legislative Affairs Committee and the Nebraska Construction Industry Political Action Committee, as well as the co-chairman of the Associated General Contractors of America Political Action Committee for the state of Nebraska.
Business Development Manager
A native of Kearney, Mike Kalb earned his BS in business administration with emphasis in finance and accounting from Kearney State College (now UNK) in 1991. Following stints as Western Missouri Region Manager for GE Capital Financial Services and as a broker for Morgan Stanley financial services, Mike joined BD construction in 2002.
Mike serves on the Association of General Contractors Nebraska Building Chapter Nebraska Design and Construction Industry Council and participated in the 2010-2011 Construction Leadership Academy. Active in the community, Mike is the co-founder of Kearney Cares, member of the Kearney Public Schools Foundation Board of Directors and vice-president of Kearney Little League. He is also the co-organizer and co-manager of five real estate development companies in the Kearney area.
As business development manager, Mike works with and advises potential clients regarding construction projects.
Vice President/Project Manager
Dennis Neemeyer has been a part of BD Construction for more than 40 years. Growing up on a farm, he was exposed to heavy equipment at a young age. Dennis joined BD in 1966, just six years after it was formed, at the age of 17.
In the years that followed, he became skilled in construction techniques and adept at all aspects of the construction business. In the 1970's, he was able to utilize his nearly 13 years of US Army Reserves experience to become an effective leader and was promoted to superintendent of construction crews. Dennis moved to Kearney in 1983 to help start the satellite office. In 2000, he became a shareholder in the firm, and was named vice president in 2002 in recognition of his leadership abilities. As project manager, Dennis oversees all aspects of a job, including supervision of crews and subcontractors, procurement, permits and scheduling.
Dennis' involvement in the Kearney community includes serving as the past vice-president and president of the Kearney Cosmos Club and is very active in his church. In 2009, he was chosen by Governor Heineman to serve on the Judicial Selection Committee.

As a project manager/superintendent, Gary Allen leverages a wealth of experience in his role at BD Construction. Originally from Benkelman, Nebraska, Gary first came to Kearney in 1978 to earn his Bachelor of Science from Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney). After graduating, Gary held a number of positions. He coordinated the opening of all new Boston Market restaurants in Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico, as well as oversaw special projects in California, Oregon and Washington. After his work there, Gary worked as head of construction with Sullivan Hayes Brokerage, and then owned Allen Construction Management in Colorado. The combination provided him experience in large retail and office developments along the Front Range, as well as tenant finish.
Gary started with BD Construction in 2008 under a special services contract to build the KREX television station in Grand Junction, Colorado. Upon the project's completion, Gary made the decision to become a full-time employee of BD Construction.
Sharing the values of many of his coworkers, Gary utilizes his free time to connect with his family while relaxing or playing golf.
Douglas S. Bierman
Executive Vice President/Senior Estimator
As the son of one of the founders of BD, Doug Bierman literally grew up in the construction business. He worked in the field during his high school summer breaks and in college began drafting and designing building plans.
After graduating with a degree in engineering technology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he aided Mark Benjamin in establishing the Kearney office that would eventually become BD headquarters.
Doug took on early responsibility for estimating and management, eventually developing his own electronic estimating system in Excel. Today, Doug has full responsibility for the estimating division at BD in addition to his senior management responsibilities.

Dan Konwinski has always loved working in construction since starting in shop class in school. Growing up just north of Silver Creek, Nebraska, Dan knew what he wanted to do as an adult and pursued it with heart. As soon as he graduated high school, he joined BD Construction in Columbus. He started as a basic laborer and worked his way up, beginning his career in the areas of concrete, carpentry and steel.
Dan transferred to BD Construction's Kearney location when his wife transferred to UNK. Having proven his ability on the site, Dan was promoted to the role of foreman – a role he has maintained over the years.
Now living in Shelton, Nebraska, Dan devotes much of his spare time to his family – camping and ATV riding being their favorite pastimes.
Linette Butler joined BD Construction in 1996 working in accounts payable and has since worked her way to senior accountant. Linette holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Due to Linette's focus and organizational skills, BD Construction employs an open-book policy and clear cost-plus-work guidelines that enable clients to easily monitor project costs, which are tracked and managed through Linette's collaboration with project managers and the estimating department.
Linette's drive is not limited to the workplace. She has served as president of the Association of General Contractors of America Nebraska Building Chapter Board of Directors – the first woman to hold that position. She also acts as chairperson of the Membership Development committee and participated in the 2010-2011 Construction Leadership Academy. Linette is also a member of the Construction Financial Management Association, the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Envoys, Buffalo County Relay for Life and is an ardent supporter of area U.S. Military groups. Linette enjoys riding her motorcycle, attending Husker football games, traveling and spending time with her family.
Business Development Manager
Mark Lewis has held management positions since the beginning of his career. After four years as a social science major at Kearney State College (now UNK), in the early 1980s, Mark spent 10 years with The Buckle as supply manager, followed by positions as the general manager of the Buffalo County Agricultural Association and service manager for Anderson Brothers Electric.
Mark joined BD in 2000 and has specialized in business development ever since. As business development manager, Mark stays abreast of building trends, especially in the areas BD specializes in, such as education, healthcare, retail and agriculture. Mark works with both the private sector and public agencies developing feasibility studies and apprising them of BD's expertise and capabilities.
Mark volunteers his time as a YMCA coach and with the Kearney Public Schools Foundation Class Act fundraiser.
Born and raised in Omaha, Lindsay Gifford came to Kearney as a University of Nebraska at Omaha transfer to the construction management program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. As part of her education, she served as an intern for BD Construction. When her internship was complete, Lindsay continued working part-time at BD Construction, assisting the project managers until she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in construction management. Lindsay then joined the staff full-time as an assistant project manager.
Accountable for the administrative aspects of multiple projects, Lindsay recently celebrated her promotion to project manager.
In her spare time, Lindsay enjoys going to Husker football games and spending time with her family.
Rick Pettit was born and raised in Kearney. Appreciative of the local atmosphere, Rick remained in Kearney to work for BD Construction, joining the company in 1984 after he graduated high school. He began as a basic laborer, was eventually promoted to leadman and then foreman. Throughout his career at BD Construction, Rick has utilized opportunities to expand his industry knowledge through work experience and online classes.
Due to his reliability and motivation, Rick garnered the role of superintendent, a responsibility he still maintains today. Rick’s duties as a superintendent include managing subcontractors and suppliers, overseeing the project schedule and maintaining quality control and safety.
In addition to his role at BD Construction, Rick is an active member of Faith United Methodist Church and finds time to for boating, fishing and golfing when the weather permits.
Pre Construction Services/Estimating
Austin Larson was first introduced to construction through his grandfather, an owner of a residential construction company. Following in his footsteps, Austin pursued opportunities to gain experience in the construction industry through Habitat for Humanity, various construction class projects and working for a custom home builder during college. Austin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in construction management from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He first joined BD Construction as an intern and was hired full-time as an estimator upon graduation.
In addition to his work as an estimator, Austin assists with pre-construction services and subcontractor pre-qualifications items for BD Construction. Austin is certified as a LEED Green Associate.
Austin participated in the Association of General Contractors Nebraska Building Chapter 2010-2011 Construction Leadership Academy. Outside of work, he is actively involved with his two sons in various sporting activities and events. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, camping and boating with his family and the occasional ride on his motorcycle.

BD Construction was Jim Hoppenstedt's first job after graduating from high school in Columbus in 1978. Although he began work as a carpenter, within a few years he had also gained significant experience in concrete and in the erection of prefabricated steel buildings.
In 1983, Jim was promoted to construction foreman. In 2000, he became a shareholder in the firm, and in 2002 was named vice president and tapped to run the new BD office in North Platte. In 2004, he returned to BD's main office in Kearney. As project manager, Jim oversees all aspects of complex, multi-million dollar projects, including procurement, scheduling and supervision of employees and subcontractors. Jim is also a member of the Association of General Contractors of America Nebraska Building Chapter Program Planning committee.
Business Development Manager
Ken Masker joined BD Construction in 2011 after a career in pharmaceutical sales. While traveling the state, Ken recognized that Nebraska, especially Kearney and its surrounding areas, is on the leading edge of growth. Ken's current role with BD Construction focuses on the development of nursing homes and assisted and independent living facilities.
Originally from Minden, Iowa, Ken graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing from Northwest Missouri State University in 1989 and went on to have a 16-year career with Johnson & Johnson. Ken brings with him leadership skills and industry knowledge that is valuable to the BD team.
Ken maintains strong community involvement as a member of St. James Catholic Church and is a coach and board member for Kearney Little League Baseball. Ken enjoys being involved with and coaching his children's athletic activities, as well as playing golf.
The son of a residential home builder, Ben Gifford spent his summers and after school hours with a hammer in his hand. When he graduated from high school in 1998, Ben decided to utilize his knowledge of the industry by joining BD Construction, where he began as a basic laborer – a position he did not hold long before he advanced to leadman. He was responsible for organizing and coordinating subs in the crew, as well as leading them in the actual construction in the field. Learning more about the commercial side of the industry, Ben continued to grow in his leadership capacity. Due to his diligence and motivation in the workplace, Ben was promoted in 2004 to superintendent.
As a superintendent, Ben is the on-site project manager where he oversees quality control and safety. Ben also manages subcontractors and suppliers and oversees the project schedule. He continues to embrace opportunities to learn more about the industry through seminars, classes, special training and online events.
Outside of work, Ben is an avid golfer and enjoys hunting and shooting. However, what is most important to him is spending time with his family.
Mike Bowman attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln before joining the U.S. Army. Following his service, he began a career in health care at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend, Nebraska. Mike was a laboratory technician for 10 years and ultimately became the hospital's administrator for another decade. After his time at Warren Memorial, Mike served as CEO of Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City, Nebraska, for 24 years until his retirement.
In 2011, Mike brought his more than three decades of executive leadership experience in health care to BD Construction. As a business development representative, Mike's extensive expertise supports BD in establishing new connections and developing long-term relationships with regional medical facilities.
Mike currently lives in Central City, where he served on the City Council and is currently a member of the Central City Community Redevelopment Authority, the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. His wife, Kathy, is a RN working as a traveling nurse and his son, Joe, is an auto body technician in Lincoln.
Prior to joining BD Construction, Andy Bartling earned his associate’s degree from Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee, worked for an engineering company in Tulsa and then returned to his home state to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in construction management. He combined his self-taught background in computers/computer systems with his knowledge of AutoCAD software to gain a full-time position with BD Construction after completing a successful college internship with the company.
Andy currently serves as project manager and concept designer, as well as oversees all on-site IT (computer management) for BD Construction. Andy is certified as a LEED Green Associate.
Andy finds enjoyment in activities ranging from playing video games and golf, to hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Like many of his coworkers, Marty Coble's decision to enter the field of construction was influenced by family heritage in the industry; his father owned a construction company in Broken Bow. However, upon graduation from high school, Marty pursued other options to broaden his horizon. Running track for Cloud Community College in Concordia, Kansas, Marty pursued his associate's degree in science. Upon his graduation from college, Marty moved to Kearney because of the larger city atmosphere.
Marty joined BD Construction in 2006 as a laborer and began to work his way up the scale of responsibility. Currently, he is a superintendent, managing subcontractors and suppliers and overseeing the project schedule, quality control and safety of on-site activities.
When he's not at work, Marty enjoys the great outdoors. He appreciates the opportunities the Kearney area gives him for hunting, fishing and riding Motocross with his nephews.
Deanna Freeman first worked with BD Construction when she was the hospital administrator for the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, Kan., and BD was the contractor on an $8 million building and renovation project for the facility. She was so impressed with BD over the two-and-a-half-year project that when she retired from her position at the hospital, she went to work as a business development representative for BD, familiarizing hospital and other facility administrators in Kansas with BD’s experience and capabilities.
Deanna attended North Central Kansas Technical College where she earned a nursing degree before going on to receive her bachelor’s degree in healthcare services from the University of Phoenix. In all, she worked in the healthcare field for more than 20 years. Although she has a special knowledge of and interest in healthcare, she will represent BD for construction projects in all areas, including education, commercial, industrial, religious and hospitality.
Deanna and her husband live in Jewell, Kan., and are active in their church and community. Deanna enjoys baking and traveling, and because the couple lives near their two married children, she and her husband have ample opportunity to be involved with the sports and school activities of their five grandchildren.
Ryan Quiring learned the basics of construction at a young age. When he was 13, he was already working on shingling and remodeling projects in his hometown of Henderson, NE, and surrounding areas. As he entered high school, he began work erecting steel buildings and grain bins throughout central Nebraska.
While working as a foreman for a roofing company, Ryan developed an interest in general contracting and high scale projects. He pursued this interest by joining BD Construction in 2006 working as a laborer. Ryan credits his on-site superintendent for teaching him about the management side of the business, which has led to his current role at BD as a superintendent.
Although he's fairly new to the Kearney area, Ryan stays active in the community. He currently attends First Lutheran Church in Kearney. During his free time, he likes spending time outdoors with his wife and daughter, as well as driving his classic car and riding his motorcycle.
Jeff Hoppenstedt came by his love of the construction industry naturally; in fact, you might say it’s in his genes. As the son of BD Construction vice president and project manager Jim Hoppenstedt, Jeff would visit job sites with his dad as a child and started working summers for BD when he was 15. All of this has provided Jeff experience beyond his years.
Born in Columbus but raised in Kearney, Jeff is a graduate of Kearney Catholic High School and also attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Jeff enjoys the opportunity to work outdoors as part of a team and takes satisfaction in things he’s built himself. When not on the job site, Jeff enjoys riding four-wheelers on the river, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Kent Cordes, P.E.
Civil Engineer/Project Manager
During his 20 years working as a design engineer and project manager in Kearney, Kent Cordes had frequent opportunities to work with BD Construction as a consultant. He enjoyed working with the BD team and noted the team members’ commitment to their clients, their professionalism and their spirit of cooperation. In 2013, Kent decided to join the BD team and looks forward to the new challenges ahead.
Originally from York, Kent obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1993 and his master’s degree in civil engineering a year later, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A registered Professional Engineer, Kent has extensive experience with surface water drainage and stormwater runoff issues.
Off the job, Kent serves as the congregational chairman at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, participates with his son in Cub Scouts and formerly volunteered as a baseball coach in Riverdale. He is a member of the Nebraska Floodplain and Stormwater Management Association. He enjoys woodworking, fishing, camping and golf.
Assistant Project Manager
Jon Mosbarger’s early experience in the construction industry led him to pursue a degree in construction management from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. While in school, he completed an internship with BD Construction, and upon graduation, was offered a job to join BD full time.
Born and raised in Kearney, Jon was drawn to BD’s professionalism and camaraderie. Jon’s rigorous classroom education as well as his experience in the field make him a valuable member of the BD team. Jon is a member of the American Concrete Institute, and when not on the job, enjoys hunting, fishing and working on his car.
Real Estate/Development Manager
Raised in the Kearney area, Megan Colling had known and appreciated BD Construction’s work for years before joining the team. Formerly the event director for the Kearney Chamber of Commerce, Megan respected BD’s leadership in the local chamber and was pleased to have the opportunity to put her skills to work for the company in June 2014.
Megan attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and also the Institute for Organizational Management, a professional development program offered by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. She has been a member of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Envoys and has been involved with the Kearney Oktoberfest and Miss Kearney Crane Festival Pageant.
In her spare time, Megan enjoys reading, spending time on the water in summers and traveling, especially in the Colorado mountains. A certified barbecue judge by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, Megan also enjoys cooking.
