About Us
We work to make the process smoother, more fun, and put together better.

BD Construction grew from small-town Nebraska with a simple belief: Building in our community requires a partnership founded on honesty and genuine care. We saw a need for a construction team that wouldn’t just build structures. We want to build trust, one conversation at a time.

About us
We're your neighbors! We're the folks you see at the local coffee shop or volunteering at the school fair. As a team of down-to-earth people from right in the heart of the Midwest, we believe in saying what we mean and meaning what we say. Plus, we'll crack a few jokes along the way, because building something we’re all proud of should be enjoyed.
When BD serves as your construction manager, we become your trusted advisor on all matters related to your building project with a single goal in mind: to provide you with the best value for your construction dollar.
BD Construction was founded in Columbus, Nebraska in 1960. In 1983, a young man named Mark Benjamin opened a satellite office in Kearney. BD Construction Inc./Kearney bloomed into a busy and successful enterprise. In 2002, Benjamin and other Kearney-based employees purchased the firm from the original owners. Today, BD Construction has numerous field crews working on a wide variety of education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, public, and agricultural projects throughout the Midwest.
When you’re ready to build something that will serve your community or your business for years to come, consider us more than just a construction company. We want to be your partner, your trusted guide, the folks who will work alongside you with honesty and expertise to bring your vision to life. We will be there for you long after your project is over. Let's talk about what you're building, and let’s build it together, with complete clarity and the shared goal of getting you the very best value, every step of the way.
Building Communities
Our work is much more than the complex projects we deliver for healthcare, education, cultural, industrial, commercial and agricultural facilities. It means giving back by supporting community success.
The BD culture fosters and encourages staff involvement in community organizations like service clubs, churches, and cultural, human service agencies and business and economic development organizations.
Through ongoing training, our team members grow in their knowledge and expertise of the industry and remain current on construction trends.
Associated General Contractors
As a leader in the construction field in the Midwest, BD Construction team members participate in the Associated General Contractors-Nebraska Building Chapter, a leading association for the commercial construction industry.
The Mark Benjamin Building Opportunity Scholarship is granted annually in memory of former BD Construction president and CEO, Mark Benjamin. Buffalo County students with financial need can receive $1,800 toward the pursuit of construction trades at an accredited two-year trade, vocational or technology institute of higher learning in Nebraska. This scholarship is offered in conjunction with the Benjamin family, BD Construction, Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and private donors. Scholarship guidelines and an application can be found on the Kearney Area Community Foundation website.
BD Construction is honored to sponsor organizations that support the industries we serve, including health care and education.

In Memoriam
Mark Benjamin
President and CEO | 2002-2015
An energetic and visionary leader, Mark Benjamin’s legacy of professionalism, collaboration and innovation continues to shape BD Construction today. Mark was a leader in the industry and in the Kearney community, and instilled the BD Construction culture with the character, skill and enthusiasm to exceed the expectations of everyone it encounters.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in business from Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney) in 1983, Mark Benjamin interviewed with BD Construction in Columbus, Neb. The founders, Gene Bierman and Bill Dreifurst, gave him a chance in commercial sales in the new office they were opening in Kearney.
Their decision paid off. In 1987, Mark was named general manager and, in 2002, he became the majority shareholder, president and CEO of BD Construction, Inc./Kearney. During his tenure, BD Construction has built, and continues to build, many notable projects including schools, banks, retail stores and industrial and healthcare facilities throughout Nebraska, Kansas and the Midwest.
Active in the industry and community, Mark served as a member of the Nebraska Building Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and was the President of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also served on the Southeast Community College Building Construction Technology Advisory Council, and as a trustee (1 of 16 in the USA) for the national Associated General Contractors Legislative Affairs Committee.
Mark passed away in April 2015. His spirit lives on in the company he shaped and the family and friends who cherish his memory.
